Mediation Overview

What Is Family & Divorce Mediation?

Family and divorce mediation is a voluntary, structured conversation in which a neutral third party helps you and the other participant talk through the decisions in front of you. Rather than handing those decisions to a court, you work together to reach agreements that reflect your family’s needs and priorities.

At WB Consults LLC, the mediator guides each session, keeps discussions focused and respectful, and helps both participants understand options and identify common ground. The mediator does not take sides, make decisions for you, or provide legal advice. You remain in control of the outcome.

Many participants choose to have an independent attorney review any proposed agreement before it is finalized, and we encourage you to do so.

Core Principles

Voluntary

Both participants choose to take part and may pause or end the process at any time.

Neutral

The mediator remains impartial and supports a balanced conversation for everyone involved.

Confidential

Discussions are kept private to encourage open, honest problem-solving.

Self-Determined

Agreements are created by the participants, not imposed by the mediator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Family & Divorce Mediation

Answers to common questions families ask before beginning mediation with WB Consults LLC.

Do both parties have to agree to mediate?

Yes. Mediation is voluntary. Both participants choose to take part, and either participant may pause or end the process at any time.

Will the mediator give us legal advice?

No. The mediator is a neutral, non-attorney facilitator and does not represent either party or provide legal advice. Each participant is encouraged to consult an independent attorney, especially before signing any final agreement.

Can we mediate if we already have attorneys?

Yes. Mediation can work alongside your attorneys. Many participants review proposed terms with their own counsel between sessions.

Is what we discuss kept confidential?

Confidentiality is a core part of mediation. The specific terms and any legal limits on confidentiality are explained and agreed to in writing before sessions begin.

How long does mediation usually take?

It depends on the number and complexity of the issues and how ready participants are to reach agreement. Some matters resolve in a few sessions, while others take longer. An estimated timeline can be discussed during your consultation.

What happens if we reach an agreement?

The mediator can prepare a written summary of the terms you reached. You may then take that summary to your own attorneys for review and any legal drafting or court filing.

What if we can’t agree on everything?

Partial agreements are still valuable. Resolving even some issues can reduce the cost, time and conflict involved in addressing what remains through other means.

How much does mediation cost?

Fees depend on the scope of your matter and the number of sessions needed. Rates and payment arrangements are reviewed openly during your initial consultation.
